Getting there: Pattingham is a few miles south of Albrighton railway station: turn right on to the A41, after about a mile go right at the cross roads, at the next cross roads go straight over (into Pattingham lane) and carry on until you get to the entrance into the wood land on your left (just short of the first left turn). Alternatively you could just ride out from Wolverhampton, through Chapel Ash, Compton, past Perton and into Pattingham. If you must shatter the peacefulness of the village with your filth belching steel coffin then park at the village hall (opposite the shops), retrace your route in to the cross roads and turn up Westbeech road, past the school and out of the village, up two rises and the start of the ride is the opening, on the right, into the woods just after the first turn on the right.
The ride:[OS127:826007] follow this nice track into the woods until you come to the first track crossing it. Turn left on to the single track up the slight rise. Carry straight on at the farm track for about 20 metres and turn right onto the track that runs down the right side of the hedge down the gentle hill.
At the bottom [OS127: 838010] carry straight on and follow this main farm track until you reach the buildings. At the buildings bear right and down the hill until you see the water tank - turn left here on to the main track between the fields. At the hedge go through the gap and right. This field edge track goes through a fence and becomes a little wider - take the right through the fence where the trees end and into the grassy field.
[OS127:852005] Follow the path with the trees on your right - straight on where the wider path joins from the left and up to where your path goes into the field. Look for the BW sign and head across the field in the direction it is pointing - this path isn't always very clear on the ground but once you reach the centre of the field you'll be able to see the gap in the hedge by the golf course in front of you - head for this.
Go through the gap in the hedge and turn right - follow the edge of the golf course and left at the bottom - then straight on until you hit the road.
[OS138:844993] Go straight over the road and onto the grass verge opposite. After a few yards turn left onto the gravely down hill track - all the way down until you see a BW sign at the bottom. Climb over the fence to your right, then left skirting around the edge of the field until you see a main track going up the hill to your right, past some stables. Jump off the bike and walk up this track - it's a footpath although loads of horses use it.
[OS138:836985] Through the gate, go past the stream and turn immediately left INTO the stream - this is actually a public road! Along the stream (trying not to put a foot down) until it becomes tarmac. Right into the field, along the farm track keeping the trees to your right. Into the next field and head for the far right hand corner of the field - the track is indistinct here. Through the gate and follow the animal tracks along the bottom of the field. Through the gate and right, heading up hill, through the next gate and up to the road.
[OS138:824975] Left onto the road and down the hill. Take the first road on the right - up the hill, down the hill and up the hill to the animal pound. Go right and then immediately left round a gate onto a BW. Go straight down the hill, ignoring any turns off into the woods, up the other side of the hill and straight to the road.
[OS:138:798975] Straight over the road onto the next BW. Along the farm track and follow the BW sign onto the single track into the woods - careful here - it's easy to miss. Down along the single track and bear right so that you get to the bridge over the stream - there are several tracks down to this - if you keep going right and down you should find it. Over the bridge and bear right - follow this track as it gradually climbs, through the gate and up to the road.
[OS138:786972] Turn right onto the road and after 500m left, through a gate, onto a good wide track up hill and over the fields. When you hit the road turn right, second left and bear left at Badger. Continue along this country lane until it goes sharply down. Half way down there is an opening into Badger Woods through a gate.
[OS138:759990] follow the track until you see a gate on the left - the BW runs through this gate and across the field but many people continue up the hill and turn left at the top for the sharp down hill back to the BW, but this is not a right of way! Where the BW comes out of the field continue along the sandy track with the pool to your left and the trees to your right. Out into the field and up the climb. Immediately at the top of the climb turn left and then right, heading across the field for the opening into the woods - through this gap and down hill. At the bottom bear right the right again and start climbing. At the top follow the farm track as it widens and turns to the left.
[OS127: 763014] At the road go right, bend right up the hill and then left. At the next give way go left and then second right. Carry on in a straight line until you can't go straight any longer and bear right. Follow this road as it becomes a track and goes over a bridge. After the bridge go through the gate on the right. Follow this BW in a straight line all the way to the road. At the road turn left and up the hill, back into the centre of Pattingham.
