Kinver and its Environs

There are several places to ride around the small village of Kinver (to the west of Stourbridge) which can be linked together to make a good half day's ride.

Kingsford County Park:- to the south east of Kinver - up the hill. This park is next to Kinver Edge which, unfortunately, is off limits to bikes. The park consists of several sandy and gravely tracks and an interesting drop down the side of a sand stone cliff.

Kinver Downhill Course:- also situated in Kingsford County Park: here. Aidan checked it out recently and made these observations: "I've been discovering the joys of DH riding! Yesterday I went to the DH course at Kinver Edge. Much better than I expected. It is officially sanctioned by the council, with proper building, litter bins, and warning signs for walkers. All of the drops are do-able at speed on a hardtail (i.e. jumping them rather than just rolling them); the jumps aren't silly-scary doubles - they're tabletops or to downslopes; the berms are just great. Highly recommnded for your aspiring hard-hitting XCer. ".

Kinver BW network:- a small maze of bridleways to explore to the north west of Kingsford County Park, around Coldridge Wood and Bird's Green and No Man's Green, these are a combination of fire road, farm tracks and wood land.

The Million:- to the north east of Kinver. Basically a sandy tack up through the woods and down to the canal. The riding around the woods used to be nice until the 'Private Property' signs went up, although that doesn't stop the local dog walkers and horse riders wandering all over the woods. The old 'Cresta Run' track down to the canal used to be a nice loose, fast, bermed DH but has been sanitised lately which is a shame.

Link Ups:- to make a longer ride you can link up to the canal via the Million, to Clent via the BWs and country lanes to the south east of Kinver, or venture north to High Gate Country Park and Abbot's Castle Hill to the Pattingham loop. High Gate Park offers some nice short bits of twisty single track but can get a little churned up by horses in the winter. Abbot's Castle Hill offers a choice of some single track BWs through the woods or open farm tracks. The Pattingham Loop can be found elsewhere on the site.
